Local MP Yvette Cooper is deeply concerned by the government’s threat to close two Pontefract Courts. The shock plans to shut down Pontefract Magistrates’ and County Court were slipped out by the Ken Clarke, the Justice Secretary last week in a bid to save money. Yvette is urging local people to share their views about these closures by taking part in the courts consultation on the Ministry of Justice website. Yvette said: “Pontefract court is a historic part of our community. It’s important the people who have committed crimes are judged here by local people and that witnesses can go to courts nearby. That’s why I’m strongly arguing we need to keep Pontefract court open and not let it be victim to the first phase of government cuts.” | |
