Yvette Cooper MP visited Royal Mail’s Pontefract delivery office to pass on Christmas wishes and encouragement to postmen and women at their busiest time of year.
Ms Cooper was shown around the office by Delivery Manager Chris Pease, meeting the postmen and women who are working hard sorting and delivering mail in the run-up to Christmas before spending some time in the Enquiry Office giving her constituents their parcels.
Ms Cooper said: “It was fantastic to be shown round the delivery office and see how things work. I couldn’t believe that a standard delivery office like Pontefract handles nearly 65,000 pieces of mail a day at this time of year! The systems are ingenious and the posties and delivery office staff are working really hard to make sure everyone gets the things they need in the run up to the festive period. Thankfully we’ve not had too much of the rain and snow this year, and for their sake I hope that continues!”
Chris Pease, Royal Mail Delivery Manager at Pontefract, commented: “Our postmen and women are working extremely hard to deliver Christmas cards, letters and parcels to people across Pontefract and the surrounding areas. We are grateful that Ms Cooper visited the office to see our operation and to support the team during our busiest time of year.
“We’d like to remind our customers to post early so that friends and family have longer to enjoy their Christmas greetings.”
