Last week Yvette Cooper met with staff and students at Airedale Boxing Club to hear about the work they do and their campaign to find more space to expand the club.
The club, based out of the Hilltop Centre on Kershaw Avenue in Castleford, offers boxing training for all ages and rugby fitness training courses for children over 10 yrs as well as an eight week general fitness programme.
Run by volunteers, the club has become so popular that they have run out of space, and are looking for somewhere to expand into in order to incorporate dedicated girls training courses and facilities including new changing rooms.
Yvette Cooper MP said:
“Airedale Boxing Club are doing some fantastic work with local kids and it’s a real testament to the commitment of all the staff who put in their own time, that it’s become so popular. The training, exercise and discipline that young people learn make a real difference for. And thanks to Nichola Adams, lots more young people in Yorkshire - girls as well as boys - are keen to sign up. That's why I’m backing Airedale Boxing Club's campaign to find new premises so they can expand and offer lessons to even more children.”
