Yvette celebrates Apprentice Week at the Skills Xchange

Yvette and Skills Xchange ApprenticesLocal MP Yvette Cooper visited Wakefield College Skills Xchange as part of Apprentice Week to speak to students about their experiences of learning a trade.

Students on the plumbing and gas works praised the state-of-the-art facilities that give them the broadest range of experience, and about their ambitions for the future, including several who want to go on to start their own businesses.

Yvette Cooper MP said:

“Congratulations to all those who are finishing their apprenticeship this year. The SkillsXchange courses are a great way to get useful practical qualifications and work experience.

“ But we need more apprenticeships and jobs. Over 1000 young people in this area are on the dole, and that's a terrible waste. Instead of bankers just getting huge bonuses, some of that money should go on apprenticeships and youth jobs instead."
