Vote Labour 6 May

From now until 6 May 2010, Labour’s candidate for Normanton, Pontefract, Castleford and Knottingley, Yvette Cooper will have a clear message for local people – the economy is on the road to recovery and it would be disastrous for the Five Towns if that was put at risk.

Yvette said:

This is a really important election for the future of our area. Pontefract, Castleford and Knottingley have come through a tough recession and unemployment is much lower than it was in the 80’s and 90’s when the Tories turned their backs on our towns.

But we’re not out of the woods. Our area needs Labour’s support for the economy and youth jobs not immediate Tory cuts that would destroy local jobs and hit school funding too
.

Yvette will be campaigning on

•    Youth jobs – 700 around here that the Tories have pledged to cut
•    5 new High School buildings which are at risk from Tory school budget cuts
•    Increasing Child Tax Credit and safeguarding Sure Start Children’s Centres
•    Protecting NHS and PGI investment against cancer care cuts
•    Helping pensioners with the Winter Fuel Allowance and free bus passes
