A big thank you to everyone who campaigned to protest health funding!
Thanks to all the people who backed our campaign to protect local health funding from Government plans that would have seen health funding cut across the Wakefield District by £43m.
Instead, NHS England bowed to pressure from local people and activists across Yorkshire and refused to pass the proposals. Now, instead of cutting funding for poorer areas like our, we'll actually receive more money. You can read the full story here.
I wanted to say a personal thank you to everyone who took the time to help with the campaign, and anyone who signed our petition and sent a letter to NHS England expressing their outrage.
The plans were always going to be very damaging and the Government should never have brought them forward. Local GPs were deeply concerned at the plans and it was never a fair system to move money from poorer areas and into areas that are not only wealthier but also healthier.
Together we’ve consistently fought to get the best possible health services for our area and we’ll continue to do that now and into the future.
