I’d like to thank people in Pontefract, Castleford, Knottingley and Normanton for all their support in the election last week and congratulate all the successful council candidates.

Our area voted to support Yorkshire jobs and Labour's help for families. These are the issues that people told me mattered most and I promise to keep fighting for them locally and nationally.

But it was disappointing to lose Elmet and Rothwell where James Lewis was a really hard working candidate. We also have to learn lessons from every lost vote - here and across the country - to make sure Labour is supporting working people.

It's a real honour to represent our town. With Normanton included too this will be one of the largest constituencies in the country, and this means new challenges. But I’ll keep fighting for the best and fairest deal for our area.
