Working hard for Normanton, Pontefract, Castleford & Knottingley

Stop the cuts to education

The Governments is planning big changes to the education funding rules, which will hit our area hard. Some schools could hundreds of thousands of pounds - the equivalent of about £500 per pupil.

The Tories have decided to change the education funding formula giving more money to some areas but leaving most schools, including ours, worse off. Wakefield District schools already get less funding than many others and this will hit us even harder.

Already Head Teachers across the country are already cutting back on new equipment, and support for children. These cuts to schools in Wakefield and the Five Towns would mean fewer teachers and larger class sizes in our area.

It’s not fair on our children. The education they get now affects their future for decades to come. I don't want to see the clock turned back to overcrowded classes, over stretched teachers or outdated equipment.

I've contacted all our local schools in Pontefract, Castleford, Normanton and Knottingley to see how hard they will be affected.   Labour MPs across the country are campaigning against these changes. The Government must not turn their back on areas like ours or on our children's future

I have a special needs child at Three Lane Ends, this will affect children like him the most. I also have a child at Castleford Academy who is very bright. Funding cuts will impact her education massively.

If these changes happen it would affect all 3 of my children for a long time as my daughter is only just starting school this time and has to attend 3 of the schools on the list

There should be money put in to the schools we have now and more teacher’s employed enabling smaller class sizes. Grammar schools are another way of dividing class and children.
