Working hard for Normanton, Pontefract, Castleford & Knottingley

Stop the cuts to education

Fair funding for all schools

The Governments is planning big changes to the education funding rules, which will hit our area hard. Some schools could hundreds of thousands of pounds - the equivalent of about £500 per pupil.

The Tories have decided to change the education funding formula giving more money to some areas but leaving most schools, including ours, worse off. Wakefield District schools already get less funding than many others and this will hit us even harder.

Already Head Teachers across the country are already cutting back on new equipment, and support for children. These cuts to schools in Wakefield and the Five Towns would mean fewer teachers and larger class sizes in our area.

It’s not fair on our children. The education they get now affects their future for decades to come. I don't want to see the clock turned back to overcrowded classes, over stretched teachers or outdated equipment.

I've contacted all our local schools in Pontefract, Castleford, Normanton and Knottingley to see how hard they will be affected.   Labour MPs across the country are campaigning against these changes. The Government must not turn their back on areas like ours or on our children's future.

Education has to be a core value. Reducing funding by £500 per child is unacceptable.

This is something the whole Country should unite on. All schools should offer the best education to all our children, it shouldn’t just be for the lucky few.

These cuts will be disastrous for schools like Kings and others. Given the dismal future for our children following Brexit this will deliver further misery

Do not cut education funding. In fact state schools need more. I am a school governor and once you pay staff, utilities, training, etc there’s hardly any money for pencils and glue!

Tory cuts to public funding are crippling my local area. As a father to a young child I want to see investment in state funded schools so that my daughter gets the same educational opportunities I was afforded.
