We the undersigned believe that our children need and deserve new school buildings and facilities. It is wrong of the government to cut funding to the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme. This investment is for vital for Knottingley High School.

We oppose the Tory – Liberal Democrat government’s decision to cut funding for BSF.

    Schools for the future

new schools

I want our children learning in twenty – first century facilities. Gone are the days when children went to school with leaky roofs and a textbook to share.

We’ve already got new computer facilities and great after school clubs but it’s time our towns had their turn.

That’s why I fought for local secondary schools to get state of the art new buildings as part of the multi billion pound government investment in new schools.

    About the campaign

Labour is committed to rebuilding or renewing every secondary school in England. Building schools for the future money is the biggest single government investment in improving school buildings for over 50 years.

The environment children learn in is really important and I want our children learning in twenty – first century facilities. It’s time our schools had their turn.

Pupils, parents and the wider community can get involved to help get a slice of the multi – million pound pot of government money for secondary schools in the area. I think it is important to show the schools minister that there is strong support for cash to go to local schools.

    ***Campaign Update***

The campaign for revamped secondary school buildings and equipment has been a success! Schools across the district have been awarded around £55million as part of the government’s Building Schools for the Future programme. The new funding will be used to update or totally rebuild Five Towns' schools to ensure young people across the area can learn in classrooms and facilities fit for the 21st century. The cash is going to refurbish Castleford High, Carleton High, Knottingley High, Airedale High and Freeston College.

There’s been plenty of support for this campaign. I'd like to thank everybody who has contacted me with their ideas about how they want to see the money spent. I'll make sure that these views are taken on board.
