Following Yvette's successful campaign, Labour had promised cash for new school buildings and facilities for Airedale High, Castleford High, Carleton High, Knottingley High and Freeston.

The government's decision to scrap the multi million pound plan to revamp local schools is a massive blow for the whole community.

Yvette said:

"This is an appalling decision. It is a complete betrayal of local children, parents and teachers who have worked so hard on plans and who badly need new modern facilities. Our local schools are doing well, but they still need new modern facilities to give our children the best start in future.

"The government didn't need to make these cuts – it’s a real kick in the teeth for our young people, but also for local construction jobs too. I'm going to keep campaigning for new buildings for our schools."
