A food bank in Knottingley that was struggling for space had its appeal answered last week.
Knottingley Food Bank, which is supported by the national charity The Trussell Trust, has helped 220 families across the town since it opened late last year and has received nearly 1 ½ tons of food in donations from local residents, but was struggling to find the space to store it all.
After local MP Yvette Cooper appealed to local companies for help, Portakabin agreed to donate a storage container suitable for storing food free of charge.
Yvette Cooper MP said:
“I’m really pleased that Portakabin were able to help with a new storage container at Knottingley Food Bank after we asked them for help, and I wanted to say thanks to everyone who has lent a hand either by donating food or volunteering at the food bank over the last few months.
“They’ve now helped hundreds of families since October and are doing really important work to help families under pressure, but it’s terrible that so many people in the 21st century should be facing such an awful cost of living crisis.”
Robert Snook, Director and General Manager of Portakabin Hire, said:
"Portakabin Hire is very pleased to be able to help the local community."
