Previous Campaigns
An MP’s life in the constituency is a busy one, attending meetings, visiting constituents, holding surgeries, taking time to listen to what people have to say and working to help sort out the many problems that arise.

Sometimes issues can affect many people and Yvette will help with a campaign to help resolve the problems. We list below some of the more recent campaigns in the constituency.

Accident and Emergency Services in Pontefract Campaign

In February 2006 I published a letter addressed to all constituents on the subject of the plans for
Pontefract General Infirmary.

Boundary Commission Campaign

Castleford Post Office campaign

Thank you to all of you who signed the petition to retain full postal services in Castleford town centre. The Post Office has announced that Castleford will not lose its central Post Office. The new site will be on Sykes Street and will open on 22 May 2006.

This is really good news for Castleford town centre. The fact that a new sub-postmaster has seen the benefits of opening a new Post Office in the town centre shows that it would have been crazy for us to lose this important service.

I welcome the work Post Office and the Co-op have done to make sure we didn’t have a long break in service in the town.

The Post Office has said that service will need to close for three days in order to transfer equipment between the sites and have said that customers can use nearby branches instead. But I have been in touch with Postwatch, the independent watchdog for postal services, who have promised to check that the alternative post offices can provide suitable services whilst the new branch is being prepared.
