Keep the Promise on PGI

PGi visit

It is outrageous that hospital bosses want to close Pontefract A&E, breaking the promises they have repeatedly made to local people that they would keep a 24 hour consultant led A&E in Pontefract.

Mid Yorkshire Hospital Trust have said they want to close Pontefract A&E at night from November and to close it completely next year. This is a betrayal of people in Pontefract and the Five Towns. Thousands of people have already signed up to support Pontefract A&E which shows just how important this is to our community.

The hospital's plans mean that nearly 10,000 people year who currently get urgent treatment from doctors at Pontefract A&E would have to travel to Pinderfields instead. But those services won't cope - over the summer some people were already waiting in Pinderfields A&E for more than 9 hours.

A government funded report said closing Pontefract A&E would save them £3m. I fear that the government's financial cuts and NHS reforms are being put ahead of patient care.

I believe we must not stand for this. We have to fight every step of the way to save our A&E services. You can add your name to my petition if you haven't already done so below, and by sharing the link through your Facebook and twitter. You can also sign up to our Facebook group at http://www.facebook.com/keepthePGIpromise.

Scores of volunteers have also been out delivering leaflets to help get more signatures on the petition. If you think you can help in your area let us know by calling my office on 01977 55 34 30 and leaving your name and number.

Best wishes,

Yvette

Children's Play areas

play areasHaving good quality play areas around here is really important for kids to be able to enjoy their childhood. What’s more, play is a really great way to keep fit and healthy. And I share parent’s concerns about their children’s safety when playing outside.

That’s why, I’m campaigning for more and better play areas throughout the constituency.

Hands off our Child Trust Fund!

hands off We all know how important it is to learn to save and manage our  finances. That’s why I believe The Child Trust Fund is so important. It helps our children save for the future.

But your child trust fund could be at risk.  If the Conservatives win the next election, they would scrap the child trust fund for families earning over £16,000 a year.
