I’ll keep fighting for local jobs

Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford candidate, Yvette Cooper put jobs for local people at the centre of Labour’s campaign for the area.

Launching Labour’s campaign locally at the Chrysalis Project in Airedale, Yvette stressed that the economy is on the road to recovery and it would be disastrous for the Five Towns if that was put at risk.

Joined by young people whose jobs would be axed by the Conservatives and a host of Labour supporters, Yvette said her top priority was to keep increasing support for jobs - including increasing from 700 to 1,000 youth jobs which the Tories would abolish.

She also promised to keep backing investment and support in the NHS and at PGI, as well as new investment to revamp Carleton, Airedale, Castleford, Freeston and Knottingley High Schools that the Conservatives have said they'll halt.

Yvette pledged Labour would continue to support over 10,000 local families by increasing Child Tax Credits not cutting them and with Labour 17,340 local pensioners would get their Winter Fuel Payments.

Yvette said:

“This is a really important election for our future.  It would be a disaster for local people if support for the economy is cut right now.

“I will fight for the things people round here have told me matter most – securing local jobs, getting young people into work and supporting local families and pensioners.”

Angela Trotter, 21 a trainee motor mechanic under the Future Jobs scheme at Chrysalis said:

“This is the best job I’ve ever had! I want to vote for Labour.”
