Community Payback

Having a say in how justice is being done is important for local people. That’s why I support getting offenders to pay back our community and improve the area.

I visited Micklegate Methodist Church to see how the Community Payback scheme punishes people who break the law, gives people a say is how justice is done and how it can benefit to the local area. A group of seven offenders were repainting the Church’s main hall and rooms. These facilities are used by a local pensioners group and needed some improvements.

I think it’s great that residents have the power to recommend projects – if there’s a dirty street nearby that’s bothering you, graffiti you want removed or you think a derelict building needs repainting – then do the local police team know so they can help fix it.
