I have now received news from the Post Office that our campaign to save Hardwick Road Post Office has been successful. As you know I met with the Post Office and Postwatch to strongly urge them to change their minds. The proposals were completely unfair on Pontefract residents...

The Boundary Commission have announced that they will not reverse its decision to cut Wakefield’s representation in Parliament - despite overwhelming local opposition to their original proposals. They are pressing ahead with their original plan to abolish and split up Normanton, with one ward being moved into Pontefract and Castleford. The Boundary Commission have announced they plan to reduce Wakefield’s representation in Parliament from four seats to three, making our constituency one of the largest in the country and wiping the name of Castleford off the political map. In the summer of 2006 the Boundary Commission’s Assistant Commissioner Frances Patterson...

I have joined with Councillor Trevor Izon to call on the Council to hold a Transport Summit to deal with the growing problems in Pontefract. We are concerned that the town faces increasing problems such as the Town End lights, and the need for better rail and bus services, and want a major summit for local people to put forward their views. Wakefield Council has agreed to draw up a new transport plan for the town to respond to growing concerns. But Trevor and I want to make sure local people get to put forward their own ideas about...
