    Campaigning for You

An MP’s life in the constituency is a busy one, attending meetings, visiting constituents, holding surgeries, taking time to listen to what people have to say and working to help sort out the many problems that arise.

Sometimes issues can affect many people and Yvette will take on campaigns to help resolve problems. Below, you'll find out about Yvette's campaigns and how you can get involved.

    Save our schools

new schools

Before the election we successfully fought for extra investment in our High Schools. The previous Labour government promised £55 million for new school buildings and facilities at Airedale High, Carleton High, Castleford High, Knottingley High and Freeston.

But the government has axed this cash which is a massive blow to local families.

I want our children learning in twenty – first century facilities. Thanks to Labour's investment, gone are the days when children went to school with leaky roofs and a textbook to share. But it’s time our towns had their turn for new school buildings.

I oppose these cuts. Join my campaign to tell the Education Secretary that our schools need extra investment.

    Save Our Sure Start

Sure Start campaign

Like so many parents, I know that bringing up children is really rewarding but can be challenging too.

That’s why it’s important there are Sure Start centres around here to help families give their children the best start in life.

Tory Cuts to Sure Start mean one in five centres would close. I’m campaigning against these cuts.

Sign up to support a future fair for families.

Hands off our Child Trust Fund!

hands off We all know how important it is to learn to save and manage our  finances. That’s why I believe The Child Trust Fund is so important. It helps our children save for the future.

But your child trust fund could be at risk.  If the Conservatives win the next election, they would scrap the child trust fund for families earning over £16,000 a year.

Help me say "Hands off our Child Trust Fund"

    PGI investment

PGi visitThe extra £50 million of investment to transform Pontefract General Infirmary is fantastic news. New high class facilities will be really welcome and they’re essential to prevent long term decline at PGI.

But it’s vital the plans are right and benefit local people. So I’ve been working with residents in the area to make sure that high quality care continues to be available at this end of the distict.

    Knottingley Regeneration

There's strong support for more action to improve Knottingley.

And I passionately believe it’s time Knottingley had its own long term plan for regeneration and investment - based on ideas from across the community. After all, that's what has helped Castleford get major new investment and development to support the town.

It’s time for Knottingley’s turn. Join my campaign to help regenerate our town.

    Cas Tigers Stadium

castigers logoCas Tigers are a champion team and they need a champion stadium to match.

So I was delighted to hear planning permission for a new stadium at Glasshoughton had been granted.

But it’s not over yet because we still need to keep up the pressure to secure funding to get the new stadium in place.

    Children's Play areas

play areasHaving good quality play areas around here is really important for kids to be able to enjoy their childhood. What’s more, play is a really great way to keep fit and healthy. And I share parent’s concerns about their children’s safety when playing outside.

That’s why, I’m campaigning for more and better play areas throughout the constituency.

    Pontefract Monkhill Train Station

Pontefract Monkhill Station is such an important station in the area. But it can still feel isolated and unsafe at night. And there’s a strong desire to see better transport connections throughout the constituency. That’s why I’ve joined forces with local campaigners to fight for a direct train service to London and an improved station for Monkhill.

Don't miss out of your Veteran's Badge

veterans badgeI'm campaigning to make sure that all veterans in Pontefract, Knottingley and Castleford receive the newly extended Veterans Badge.
