What kind of Brexit do you think will be best for Yorkshire?

There's just 6 months to go in the Brexit negotiations before the withdrawal deal has to be agreed and it's important we get the best Brexit deal for Yorkshire.

I'm worried that Theresa May is making a mess of the Brexit negotiations, but I'm writing because I want to know what you think.

I voted in Parliament to support triggering Article 50 because I thought it was important to respect the referendum result.

Now we need to decide what kind of Brexit we want. But I am worried that the Government is in a mess and still hasn't decided what it wants from the Brexit negotiations on trade, customs, immigration and the Northern Ireland border even though we are running out of time.

Personally I believe that we should be trying to get a trade and customs deal which helps Yorkshire manufacturing, immigration reform so that employers can no longer exploit low skilled immigration to undercut local wages and jobs, and keep police and security cooperation with Europe unchanged. I also believe the Government should urgently deliver the extra £350m a week NHS investment we were promised no matter what is agreed in the Brexit deal.

But I want to know what you think the most important issues are.

Theresa May is holding special meetings with bankers in the City of London and with big foreign investors to hear what they want from Brexit. But what about manufacturers and trade unions from the North of England? They need a say too.

That’s why I’m calling for a Brexit Manufacturing Deal – including a customs union. Yorkshire manufacturers like Haribo have said they need a customs union with Europe so they don't have to pay tariffs, face border checks and delays or costly customs bureaucracy every time they export or import ingredients from abroad.

I believe the Government needs to deliver a Brexit that works for the Five Towns, not just for the big cities and the financial sector, that’s why I’m asking for your views.

I'm holding meetings across the constituency to talk to people about this but I've also included a survey with this letter as well. Do let me know what you think.

How do you think Theresa May is handling the Brexit negotiations?
