Ferrybridge
& Knottingley
Out and about, meeting and listening to the views of young families
in Ferrybridge and Knottingley.
School visit
In February 2003 I launched this website at Roundhill Junior
School in Ferrybridge. I take a keen interest in education
and visit local schools on a regular basis. I take a special
interest in staying on rates after the age of 16 which are
below the national average in the constituency.

Safe
Places to Play
A group of Castleford children contacted me about play facilities
in their area. I am pushing for more activities for young
people across the area and safe places for children to play.

Prince
of Wales Colliery
Although Prince of Wales colliery sadly closed at the end of
August 2002, there are still many miners living in the constituency
and working at nearby pits. I continue to keep a keen interest
in the coal industry and coalfield regeneration.

Local
concerns I meet regularly with representatives of the local
police. Anti-Social Behaviour by a minority makes some families'
lives a misery.
My post bag is full of letters from people who agree with
me that tackling anti-social behaviour needs to be a priority.
I want to make sure that local concerns are taken on board
as part of the national plans on this issue.

Christmas
Card Competition 2002
I hold an annual Christmas Card Competition with local schools.
The winner has their card made up and hundreds of copies are
sent to people across the Five Towns - and across Westminster
and the Government too. Year 2002 winner was six year old

At the start of 2003 I joined members of the cast from Pontefract's
pantomime to add a festive boost to the campaign to save Pontefract
Town Hall.
